Miniature Pinscher Club Code of Ethics

Adopted by the Club at its AGM on 23 March 2003

  1. Owners will properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs under their care, and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention if and when required.

  2. Owners will not allow their dogs to roam at large or to cause a nuisance to neighbours or to those carrying out official duties.

  3. Owners will ensure that their dogs wear properly tagged collars and are kept fully leashed or under effective control when away from home.

  4. Owners will clean up after their dogs in public places or anywhere that their dogs are being exhibited.

  5. Owners will agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon performing an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural conformation of the animal, may report such an operation to the Kennel Club.

  6. Owners agree not to breed from a bitch or stud dog in any way which is deleterious to the individual animal or to the breed.

  1. No bitch to be bred from such that she whelps before she is 18 months old.

  2. No bitch to whelp within 1 calendar year of her previous whelping without veterinary certification of the suitability and safety of such a whelping.

  3. No bitch to have more than 5 litters in her breeding life

  4. No bitch or stud dog to be bred from without prior checking for clearance from inherited diseases in the light of current knowledge. Currently such diseases include:-

  1. Patellar luxation

  2. Addison's disease (Hypoadrenocorticism)

  3. Legg Perthe's disease

  1. No bitch or stud dog to be bred from which is known to have any of the above diseases, and veterinary advice to be sought in respect to related animals to affected ones being bred from, in the light of current veterinary knowledge.

  1. Owners agree only to sell dogs where there is a reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life and will help with the re-homing of any dog if the initial circumstances change.

  2. Owners will supply written details of all dietary requirements and give guidance concerning responsible ownership when placing a dog in a new home.

  3. Owners will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind.

  4. Owners will not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed nor falsely advertise dogs nor mislead any person regarding the quality of the dog.

  5. Owners will ensure that all relevant Kennel Club documents are provided to the new owner when selling or transferring a dog, including a copy of this code.
